MARY MOTHER OF GOD - NEW YEAR - 1/1/2023

Happy New Year!! We Catholics celebrated our new Church year on the first Sunday of Advent. This new calendar year, however, gives us yet another opportunity to give thanks for all of the ways that God has blessed us in this past year and to look forward with hope to all of the blessings to come. With all the challenges we faced and overcame, we received many blessings. In the spirit of gratitude, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our clergy and staff here at St. John Henry Newman Parish. We are particularly blessed with very talented music ministry teams at all our eight Liturgical celebrations every weekend at OLSH Tappan and St. John Piermont. We owe them a debt of gratitude. I thank our decorating crew who made this year’s celebration of Christmas such a joyful and meaningful experience. We appreciate our children who practiced with the help and guidance of the adult “pageant crew” under the direction of Ms. Ann Swann, they did an outstanding job, including this year’s concert by the Band NovaBlue and our musicians. I am sure our Lord was as pleased with the gift of our presence at Christmas Mass as he was of the Shepherds and Wise Men who came to visit Him at the first Christmas. Thank you as well for the generosity that so many of you show throughout the year and particularly at Christmas with regard to your support to St. John Henry Newman parish and for your many kindnesses to your priests in the form of cookies, cakes, cards, and so many thoughtful gifts.
If you are looking for a New Year’s resolution that will delight your heart and satisfy your soul, resolve to meet our Lord regularly through reading and studying His Word and attending the Eucharist with your parish family. Let us all, “let go and let God” work in our lives. Our Free Parish App ‘stjohnnewman’ and our website www.stjohnnewman.org, together with our weekly bulletin have rich resources to deepen our faith life. There is a wonderful resource in the form of videos on the Holy Eucharist by Jerry Caterino and Maria Vanessa on our website and Parish App.
In this new year, as a Parish we hope to increase our efforts to engage the families with young children, assist the homebound, conduct free health camps and wellness program for babies and their mothers.
All of God’s blessings upon you in this new year!! We begin the new year with the Feast of the Mother of God. May Mary’s example and guidance help us to be a blessing in the lives of others around us. Please know that you will all be kept in prayer.

¡¡Feliz año nuevo!! Los católicos celebramos nuestro nuevo año eclesiástico el primer domingo de Adviento. Este nuevo año calendario, sin embargo, nos brinda otra oportunidad para dar gracias por todas las formas en que Dios nos ha bendecido en el año pasado y mirar hacia adelante con esperanza a todas las bendiciones venideras. Con todos los desafíos que enfrentamos y superamos, recibimos muchas bendiciones. En un espíritu de gratitud, me gustaría aprovechar esta oportunidad para agradecer a nuestro clero y personal aquí en la Parroquia St. John Henry Newman. Estamos particularmente bendecidos con equipos de ministerio de música muy talentosos en nuestras ocho celebraciones litúrgicas cada fin de semana en OLSH Tappan y St. John Piermont. Tenemos con ellos una deuda de gratitud. Agradezco a nuestro equipo de decoración que hizo de la celebración de la Navidad de este año una experiencia tan alegre y significativa. Agradecemos a nuestros niños que practicaron con la ayuda y la guía del "equipo del concurso" de adultos bajo la dirección de la Sra. Ann Swann. Hicieron un trabajo excepcional, incluido el concierto de este año de Band NovaBlue y nuestros músicos. Estoy seguro de que nuestro Señor estaba tan complacido con el regalo de nuestra presencia en la Misa de Navidad como lo estaba con los pastores y los Reyes Magos que vinieron a visitarlo en la primera Navidad. Gracias también por la generosidad que tantos de ustedes muestran a lo largo del año yparticularmente en la Navidad con respecto a su apoyo a la Parroquia de St. John Henry Newman y por sus muchas bondades con sus sacerdotes en forma de galletas, pasteles, tarjetas, y tantos regalos pensativos.
Si está buscando una resolución de Año Nuevo que deleite su corazón y satisfaga su alma, resuelva encontrarse con nuestro Señor regularmente leyendo y estudiando Su Palabra y asistiendo a la Eucaristía con su familia parroquial. Vamos todos, “soltar y dejar que Dios” obre en nuestras vidas.
